Another thing: Having an overpowered skill as your favorite skill is a bit lame. Real people have underpowered skills as their favorite.

Honestly, WTF are u guys arguing about? i really dont understand. The open test weekend was the best thing ANET could have done, yet they only touched a handful of the skills in question... so aparently, maybe ANET will actually listen to their result from the test weekend and actually improve what the players are concerned about.

The dev have a vision of there game. There vision is "tweaked" based on he feed back of the players.

Most game companies would not bother doing this, they take raw data for months and go surprise, here's the skill balance. The allows us to take part and give feed back.

I personally like the fact anet allowed us to play a big part of the tweaks.

I Agree 100%

I'll have to say I agree.

If that's accurate (and I'm reading it right) there should be another test weekend coming soon, which will give another opportunity to hammer out things and have a say on it, so just wait for that.

You can please some of the people all of the time, or all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all of the time. This kind of approach (coupled with their additional alpha and data gathering testing) gives really what could be considered the best approach for everyone to get involved and for Anet to maybe get an idea of how things are playing out in the big picture i.e. overall.

Meh, I just want Shattering Assault restored to it's former glory... nothing like bringing it into an AB, and removing a 55 solo capper's Protective Spirit and dealing 150 armor ignoring damage to him.

But I suppose the new "cannot be blocked" addition to it at the cost of some damage is more useful for PvE and PvP alike.

You think being in limbo for 2 weeks is bad? Go ask the GvG guys how they've felt the past 2 months...

I didn't try out all the skills from thsi beta testing event. But I only tried those skills that I used on my builds.

I wouldnt go as far as saying its having a negative impact but sometimes people are still left wondering in a HA/GvG/RA loss had that blinding surge or RaO or Spiritual Pain still be nerfed had that changed the game for us? Maybe. I think that maybe what the OP is referring to, the fact that we know what may get nerfed, what may not and us playing with the still yet the same skills we know they will get nerfed but people are using them still right up till the next skill balance.

The worst part? Once the test weekend ends, we're left with the previous crappy versions of skills, like a Deep Wound-less Impale. Back to boring old Twisting Fangs, I guess.

This test weekend was fun, but I really hope Anet is able to sift through the endless posts of "OMGZ my f4rming guy sux now!!" and can actually see intelligent posts by PvPer's who know how this game works. I do play a lot of PvE, but PvP is where the really brilliant, versatile builds appear in an incredibly dynamic environment which is incredibly susceptible to breaking due to bad skill balance.

I like the preview aspect of test weekends, seeing the direction skills might go in, and getting to use some pretty wild stuff. Make no mistake, if the devs want to try some extreme changes then a test weekend is the time to do it - they might discover something really cool that mild "safe" changes wouldn't uncover. What I expect to happen later down the line is some balanced changes shake out of doing the tests.

Look at it from a practical point of view - there's a lot of skills to balance, so a good way to see if a change is in the right direction is just to throw it out to a huge number of players and see what happens. Then with the info that comes back, the devs can make some informed changes without relying on so much guesswork.

I look at it this way: on any given day, I could fire up Guild Wars and find out that my favorite build is officially worthless because they decided to rebalance some skills. It's a given.

This time, not only do I know that a skill rebalancing is coming, I even know what some of the changes are going to be. More importantly, my input might even influence whether some things revert to how they were during the test weekend or not.

I don't know about you, but I'm excited about something like this. I wouldn't mind seeing it more often, to be honest. You see it as sucking because you know what's coming but can't really do much about it. I see it as being excited because now, at least, we know it's coming and we had a say in it.

do we really get a say in the skill balances though? I suppose if someone gives a reasonable, logical arguement against one of the changes, Anet would listen....

but most people are simply opposed to change and have no real arguement against the changes (I assume most of the changes are in some way needed for balance.)

honestly, I think what Anet really gets out of the test weekend is not user feedback (though again some of it may be really useful, and used by Anet), but rather massive amounts of data about how these new balances are working statistically.

It's a case of sorting the wheat from the chaff. Yeah, there's a lot of non-productive, non-comments about the proposed skill changes such as "bad/good change," or "you ruined this skill." But I think that a lot of what's been said in the test weekend forum has been very productive. There has been lots of good insights given in regards to skill balances, even if it's something as simple as "there's nothing wrong with this skill as is was, no need to change it," to "this change is a bit too much, it would be better if..."

Because of the feedback given, I doubt that the nerfs to the Paragon class will stick, since so many people said "BAD NERF! A-NET" (condensed version of all the comments ) Another that stands out as an overwhelmingly united voice was directed at the proposed change to Energy Surge.

Although the skill change weekend is good for feedback from the community on different ways of balancing skills, I have to agree with the OP.
Ever since the weekend ended and the skills changed back, I'm very much unmotivated to spend skill points and money to buy new skills or try to work out new builds. I just want to wait and see what is going to change before spending any of my resources.
It's does feel like I'm in limbo.
